Speak Up: Why You Might Be Afraid

I think people are so afraid to speak up because they fear they’re not educated enough on that particular subject; they’ll have the facts wrong. Fear of judgement. Fear of hurting one’s image. Fear you’ll no longer be “likeable.” Fear you might rock the boat.

Dr. Rumeet Billan shares how L&D (Learning and Development) is changing as we speak.

The bigger problem is I think people hear about current events and because they feel like it’s not their problem, or it’s not their place to speak about them, they keep scrolling. They completely forget to even look into the issue in the first place. Out of sight, out of mind.

Michelle Obama shares her views on the importance of speaking up.

I’ll keep sticking my neck out and sparking open dialogue. I’m sure I’m wrong about some things I say, but the alternative is to be a coward and shy away from talking about them altogether out of fear. And that’s not how we grow; I’d rather be corrected and have been the one to lead a discussion about a meaningful topic than too scared to have it in the first place.

Let’s not be silent about big issues.
